Our instructor and founder is Laura Wuchner, who has found her dream job as a certified therapeutic riding instructor. Laura is a nurse and spent the first several years of her nursing career in a specialty intensive care unit caring for people with severe brain and spinal cord injuries and conditions. That experience has given her a unique perspective and skill set that has proved helpful while working with children with special needs.
Laura has been crazy about horses since she was a little girl. She showed horses in 4-H while growing up. She started volunteering with a therapeutic riding program in 2012 and loved it immediately. She did an internship with Horses in Education, a therapeutic riding program on the West side of Indianapolis with an emphasis on education. She earned her instructor’s certification from the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship in 2014.
Our volunteers are absolutely essential to our program. They help ensure the safety of our students by leading the horse or sidewalking. They complete special training and are both knowledgeable and passionate about therapeutic riding.
